Idea powołania Olsztyńskiego Teatru Tańca zrodziła się z potrzeby rozwoju środowiska sztuki tanecznej w Olsztynie. Pierwszym etapem był zrealizowany projekt „Olsztyński Teatr Tańca. Prolog” w ramach Olsztyńskiego Budżetu Obywatelskiego 2019. Projekt “OTT.Prolog”  to działania mające na celu pokazanie mieszkańcom Olsztyna i województwa sposób funkcjonowania zawodowego teatru tańca, poprzez realizację programu artystycznego zakładającego powstanie 3 spektakli realizowanych przez profesjonalnych twórców, stanowiących bazę repertuaru przyszłego Olsztyńskiego Teatru Tańca.  
Projekt „OTT.PROLOG” jest zwycięskim projektem zintegrowanym, podczas głosowania w ramach Olsztyńskiego Budżetu Obywatelskiego 2019 zdobył 5252 głosów mieszkańców Olsztyna. Pomysłodawcą projektu jest Katarzyna Grabińską oraz Fundacja Tańca i Sztuki ARToffNIA.
Obecnie Olsztyński Teatr Tańca działa w ramach  Fundacji Tańca i Sztuki ARToffNIA w stałej współpracy z jednostkami Samorządu Województwa realizując całoroczne działania: artystyczne-produkcje i prezentacje spektakli, rezydencje artystyczne, oraz edukacyjne–otwarte warsztaty i próby, spotkania z publicznością. 

The idea of ​​establishing the Olsztyn Dance Theater was born from the need to develop the dance art community in Olsztyn. The first stage was the completed project "Olsztyński Dance Theater. Prologue” as part of the Olsztyn Citizens' Budget 2019. The “OTT.Prolog” project is an activity aimed at showing the inhabitants of Olsztyn and the voivodeship how a professional dance theater functions, through the implementation of an artistic program involving the creation of 3 performances performed by professional artists, constituting the basis of the repertoire of the future Olsztyn Dance Theater. The "OTT.PROLOG" project is the winning integrated project, during the voting as part of the Olsztyn Citizens' Budget 2019, it received 5,252 votes from Olsztyn residents. The originator of the project is Katarzyna Grabińska and the ARToffNIA Dance and Art Foundation. Currently, the Olsztyn Dance Theater operates as part of the ARToffNIA Dance and Art Foundation in permanent cooperation with provincial government units, implementing year-round activities: artistic productions and presentations of performances, artistic residencies, and educational - open workshops and rehearsals, meetings with the audience.
